Double Podium for Gulf Racing at Silverstone
The first round of the European Le Mans Series, the 4 hours of Silverstone on Saturday 11th April saw Gulf Racing drivers standing on the podium in both the GT classes.
In the LM GTE Class drivers Mike Wainwright, Adam Carroll and Phil Keen took the Gulf Racing Porsche 991 RSR to a convincing victory, half a lap ahead of the 2nd place car. Starting from P5 after a close qualifying session Phil Keen worked up the order in double quick time, taking the lead from the 40 minute mark, from there the drivers and pit crew kept the car ahead until the flag after 4 hours.
In the GTC class Roald Goethe, Dan Brown and Archie Hamilton took the Gulf Racing Lamborghini Gallardo to 3rd place after 4 hours of hard driving. A tough race was handled exceptionally well by the team and driving crew as they battled for position and maintained a consistent pace to put them on the podium at the chequered flag.
Team Principal and Porsche Driver Mike Wainwright: ‘It’s a great result for the team. A lot of effort from many people goes into this and for that we all have to be very happy, special mention goes to the pit crew who I thought did an impeccable job, gaining us valuable seconds on other teams’.
Team Principal and Lamborghini Driver Roald Goethe: ‘This Lamborghini was my first GT car ever, I acquired it in 2008 when I caught the racing bug, since then it had its various face lifts and upgrades and to now finally achieve a ELMS podium finish with it after so many years of racing duty by this workhorse is very special to me, cause this is probably the last year we can use this Lamborghini in competitive racing. A big thanks also to the GR team for impeccable preparation and Dan and Archie for great driving’.
Lamborghini Driver Dan Brown: ‘I am really happy to finish on the podium with Roald and Archie in the Lamborghini. The Gulf Racing team all did a great job providing us with a fast and reliable car. Roald drove really well all weekend and handled his double duties in the ELMS and WEC like a Pro. Archie also did very well to jump in the car with limited testing and not make any mistakes all weekend’.
Team Manager Matt Beers: ‘It’s fantastic for us to get the results we have at the first race of the ELMS Championship, a great showing for the Lamborghini in GTC with a well-deserved podium and a very satisfying victory with the Porsche in GTE, exactly the start we wanted. The driving was exemplary across both crews and our pit stop team was exceptional, an excellent job done by the whole team, a lot of hard work in preparation has paid off, we are really looking forward to the next round.’
The next race of the season takes place in Imola, Italy on the 17th May, follow the team progress on this site.
