Podiums bookend Gulf Racing’s ELMS season
Podiums bookend the European Le Mans season for Gulf Racing as they look to the next challenge in 2016.
Gulf Racing UK took their Porsche 991 RSR GTE to third place in the final round of the European Le Mans series at the weekend, finishing the season where they started, back on the podium.
After enjoying the victory at Silverstone for the first round the team were confident this season could be a chance to take the championship, but after some misfortune struck the team over the next three rounds the title became an impossibility going into the final race. Despite that the team rallied and in difficult conditions, with strategy playing a key part as they fought hard to take the final podium step in the closing hour of the 4 hours of Estoril ELMS season finale.
Matt Beers – Team Manager – ‘We had a tough weekend. Like all the teams, the weather was a huge challenge to work around and we struggled to find the best from the car in practice and particularly qualifying. However, come the race, the drivers all did a fantastic job and although we ended up busy in the pits as we chased the best tyres for the conditions the strategy worked out for us in the end. The season has been a step in the right direction for the team, we know we are competitive and can ultimately fight for the championship in GTE-AM. Plans for 2016 are evolving, our ambition is still to cement ourselves as the best private GTE endurance team in the world and to do that we need to push for the big results. 2016 will be focused on achieving that goal.’
Mike, Adam & Phil (with Dan’s help in Red Bull Ring) took 4th in the teams championship, with Adam and Mike also taking 4th in the drivers’ championship standings. A great season of racing was had in the ELMS with Porsche, whose support was outstanding throughout. The whole team are looking forward to pushing hard for more results and further challenges & successes in 2016, meanwhile the winter preparations for next season will start in earnest.
